2019/2020 has been a busy couple of years for me. It was probably not the best idea, but on top of everything I was working on three (actually four) books at the same time.
But I’m very excited to announce that coming in 2020 will be a new children’s picture book called Ling Li’s Lantern, written by Western Australian author Steve Heron and published by MidnightSun publishing.
This was a terrific commission that allowed me to explore and deeply research Chinese fashion, architecture and art of the Ming period as a basis for the illustrations. It was also my first full work undertaken both drawing and colour using my new Wacom tablet and Photoshop. I’m very pleased with the result – I tried to retain a hand-made feel (somewhat successfully as it still feels like a digitally produced work to me).
